Hi Guys, class myself as a competent diyer of some 30 years learning and eventually getting right experience. My question regards my heating/Hw Programmer. It lives in the airing cupboard in the bathroom with the hot water cylinder etc. The problem is it impossible to actually see the controls without using a torch so half the time the wrong button is pressed. Does anybody know if the programmer can be mounted externally of the airing cupboard but still in the bathroom. It is not possible to reach the sink or bath from this location. Any qualified advise would be greatly appreciated.

Even if outside the zones for bathrooms (see Wiki at top of page- Electrics UK) I'd avoid putting the unit in the bathroom.

Steam, wet air, high moisture don't seem to understand 'zones' and the units PCB won't like it and could eventually fail.

Many thanks Chri5, will give relocation outside the bathroom some thought. Having a sparky in sometime soon for some other work, will get him to do any compliant works, cheers.

What about just sticking some of these:-

Near your programmer. Surely you don't fiddle with it that often?

Hi Slup, I don't fiddle with it that often, the missus does ! (I am still talking about the programmer :P ) She'll reach in to put the H/w on in the morning and will prod away at the buttons till the boiler fires up. I was thinking of putting a big stick-on pointing finger saying " This button here".
Seriously though, thanks for the good idea. That is probably the simplest solution, will go along that route. I need a new programmer as it only works with a cable-tie round it so thought it would be a good idea to have it moved at the same time, but will leave in its current location, Cheers.

Sort out the timings so you don't need to change anything, then hide it away and get a cheap 'n' cheerful programmer to put on the wall, but not connected to anything, just for the wife to play with....

I once cut a mask from a bit of clear perspex to stick on the front of a control box, with just one hole to correspond with the only control regularly used. If needed, it could be lifted up to access the whole panel.

Cheers TicklyT, a cover of sorts would work well..after reprogramming again...with just the one button showing..might get a cheap 'n' cheerful Dummy Tv Remote as well, just for the wife to play with..thanks again.
