bi metal cylinder & room stats can be used as volt free as its not the voltage that makes them work.
stat connections will still open and close (switch) without any wirring if you turn the dial.

For anyone who has not fully understood what they are discussing its that some boilers have low voltage call for heat inputs.

On a normal motor valve the grey wire is connected to 240V. However it does not have to be and the grey/orange can be used as volt free contacts.

A few older valves and some current special purpose valves do not have an auxillary switch.
