changed back box and now ring faulty

This photo here is the one with 3x live & leutrals and 2x earth, and this was untouched

It does look like two neutrals, but if you say there's three, then three it is.

You say there's two earths.

Could there be two earth wires together under one piece of earth sleeving?

If so, that may explain where the third earth wire is.

It may be worth checking all connections are secure, and that no wires are damaged or about to snap off.

The crackling socket sounds like it may need replacing.

Are you certain you didn't damage any cables when you chased the box in?

Did you strip any of the cables back when you connected the newly recessed socket up?

Have you unplugged all appliances before plugging in that tester? Some appliance could possibly be causing a weird fault. You never know.

Above all, work safely, and please accept the services of an electrician if you get stuck.

It could just be a shadow or dirt, but it looks to me like there's a burn mark on that double backbox behind where the bottom cable comes in?

If that's the case then look for corresponding damage on that cable...
