Hi,

I had my kitchen done a few years ago and I’ve got 9 x led spotlights that are WAY too bright, so I never use them

In hindsight I wish I installed a dimmer switch and used dimmers

What I want to do is switch these units out for some spotlights fittings that take a gu10 bulb (edit: smart bulbs that I can control on my phone)

My main issue of how do I achieve this based on the current wiring? See pics

Other than the wiring being untidy, the GU10 lamp holders are a like for like swap.
Thanks

If I were to buy these gu10 lamp holders with exposed ends (pic below), what would be the best way to connect the current wires coming from the ceiling?

Obviously I will need to connect both grey cables and both brown cables to the junction box / connector. Would I put both grey cables into the same terminal, and both brown cables into the same terminal?

P.s in this case the cable looks like 4 core (brown, blue, black, earth)

Are the grey and brown both live? The black cable and earth are not in use

Or is the grey cable being used as neutral and the brown as live?

LAP Fixed Fire Rated Down light White (5478V) at £4.50 cheap enough, Screwfix, as to the lamps, I used poundland £5 each for colour changing smart bulbs but used the smartlife app. Or could go for one which you can aim, like this

and only £4, or if nothing going to fall through the ceiling

loads of options.

Ksrfrd400 is what you need - you can choose the bezel colour / finish AND you can fit the type of GU10 dimmable LED,s to suit your requirement too

Please can someone clear this up for me?

When installing Downlight junction box, connecting existing cables, do I put both grey cables into the same push for block and both brown cables into the same block?

Assuming grey would be neutral and brown is live?

I’ve not actually worked with a grey sheathed cable before but so long as I know whether it goes into L, N or E I know what I’m doing

the two existing cables go under clamp to left, and a new short length under clamp to right, you are only using the first three junction blocks, the last 2 terminal block is not used, so one will have three browns, one three blues, and one two bare with green/yellow sleeve on them and the green/yellow from flex. So the two flat twin and earth cables go in one end, and a round flex cable the other end.

The other end of the flex goes to the new lamp. If marked L, N and E then L is brown, N is blue, and E green/yellow or bare. I see you have three core and earth, the gray should be over sleeved blue, but as long as you know with your lights grey is neutral that's OK.

Hi. Thanks so much for your help

I’ve just got back from screwfix and went the route of getting the Wago box and the Wago connectors, purely so I don’t have to wait about for delivery

Can I just confirm that what I’ve done is correct so far? I’ve put both live into one Wago connectors and both neutral into a Wago connector. I will then connect the corresponding L and N from the GU10 lamp holder to the corresponding Wago connector.

P.s is it essential to use a junction box or can I just keep the cables as they are so long as exposed ends are secure?

Thanks for all of your help

Another suggestion...

You can buy GU10 lamp holders like 126KJ at Screwfix.

Use the lights i suggested and you won’t need extra wagos
I’d already bought a load of Downlight fittings

It’s just the wiring I need to sort.

Is the pic above correct wiring prior to wiring in gu10 lamp holder? Cheers
