Hi we recently had our both chimneys re-capped. The render had cracks all over it and the flaunching had cracks and holes all over the place.

Im a bit concerned the way the builder has re-done the chimney and wants to know what everyone else thinks.

On the chimney we had two flues going up, one from the bedroom and the other from the gas fire in the living room. We worked out using a smoke test as to which one was the gas fire flue.
So he's capped off the bedroom flue under the chimney cap with sum slate and cement (no airbrick). Then rather than sit the chimney pot directly over the living room flue he's cemented the pot in the middle of the chimney. Ive included sum pics and hope they make sense what they've done.

So im guessing when we use the gas fire the smoke will go up the chimney then hover around the bedroom flue then out the chimney.

Is this ok?

Is the chimney on an external wall?

The redundant flue should be vented top and bottom and the gas flue fitted with an appropriate cap suitable for the appliance being vented.

Sounds like a bodge.
