does anybody know how to test a wax stat think mine is sticking causing overheating problems (only happens in CH mode) all advice gladly received

and I may be being thick but I have never heard of a classic combi and as far as I know only the puma had a wax diverter

There is a Classic Combi.... just a diverter valve, EV, and calorifier bolted onto the top. Very Heath Robinson. ahem.

Dunno about testing the stat though... Only seen a few in operation and took one out.

I agree Dan, an Ideal classic ff80 I think with what looks like a 'Y' plan stuck on the top with an expansion vessel

thanks so far, the model is a NF80 don't know if this will help. the wax stat is on the top right side on the flow outlet pipe. held in place by two large nuts.

try putting the waxstat in a bucket of hot water you will find if the valve is working correctly it will be fully open at 74deg c, also check the small bypass hole is not blocked.


The ideal man may be able to confirm this or not as the case may be.
