We have a coal fire that until recently heated hot water only. In the summer time we had a new heating system installed. The installers removed the pipes from the back boiler, we have been using the coal fire (installers said we could still do this) but there is now a hole in what used to be the back boiler.
Question - Is this safe to continue? What will happen to the back boiler and is there any chance flames from the coal fire will escape and set fire to the house?
Thank You in anticipation of any advice

Sometimes Installers drill holes in back boiler to prevent a steam build up in the existing boiler as a safe precaution
