Communism did not fail as most of the countries which implemented it, did their own "style" and not true communism

Maybe the answer is in the middle somewhere? maybe extremes don't work ?!!

Capitalism is pyramid selling on a grand scale. With unlimited growth and unlimited resources (including cheap energy) - it'll go on forever.

Shame about the cheap energy being a thing of the past.

well all economics is based on an ever increasing market (viz unlimited natural resources..)

True communism is a pipe dream. If we adopted true communism, then no matter what job we did, we'd all be paid the same and therefore all equal. Problem comes when Someone in charge thinks,,, "I should be on more money than the people below me." Therefore, he thinks he's more equal than others.

Yep!
Animal Farm...George Orwell.

I don't really accept that communism has failed, I prefer to believe it's in the wings just waiting to come back and I also believe capitalism has already failed . Those in power just won't accept the fact and are running around like headless chickens trying to prop up a morally and financial defunkt system.
Get the red flags flying and a statue of Marx in every town center I say :D

well, my take on it is this, capitalism has an end game, whereby the very few end up with almost everything, we seem to be reaching this end game whereby something like 90% of all wealth is owned by 10% (or something like that, I haven't checked). We've been there before and history has shown us that this doesn't turn out well in the long run.

So what to do, well, I would suggest that a redistribution of wealth would be a good thing overall as the alternative is war or revolution (well that's whats happened in the past anyway) How that is done, I don't really know, not easy to persuade the rich and powerful to dilute their wealth.

There was an interesting article (it was in the DM actually ) running along the lines of why do we think we are in this mess? Is it because, we don't really make anything the world wants to buy, we don't grow / produce enough food to even satisfy domestic demand, we import energy and natural resources, we don't produce world class educated individuals (in the main) nor do we have a hard working motivated workforce. Viz, we ceased to be a world power a long time ago, and ever since have been borrowing money to maintain the illusion.

We cannot simply rely on services (valuable though they are) to keep the lights on, for starters there are many people who do not want to / are not very good at working in services, yet the range of well paid jobs outside the service industry has been severely eroded over many years.

I think most people would agree with that - but how do you suggest we proceed? We know the patient is ill - so how do we cure him?

let's have a war, we still are one of the largest arms manufacturers, would say a lot of pointless political hot air. :) (maybe not!)

Let's start with Poland, it seems to be the defacto starting point of many a conflict, sorry, Poland, just one of those things, nothing personal you understand.

We don't need a war , the troubles of the world at the moment are caused by relatively few people (just the same asa the great depression of the thirties has been said to have been caused by a few dozen people!).
Much better to stand a few dozen capitailists against a wall and machinegun them, come on Clarkson suggest that one.

Not a bad idea! take the top 9% (we'll let 1% survive on a lottery basis), freeze their assets, redistribute them, and if they complain, just kill 'em, easy! That would be hard on their families.. I agree, so it would only be right and proper to trace down their family free to say 3 generations, and wipe them all out too. It's so simple... right time for my medication... where is that Daily Mail ?
