I'm trying to replace a faulty gate valve on a 22mm copper hot water pipe from a vented hot water cylinder. I've drained it down and undone the compression fittings but there isn't any play in the pipes (all welded joints except for the compression joints on the gate valve). In order to remove the valve I have had to cut the pipe as near to the olive as I can get. I'm replacing with a Pegler lever ball valve but now the gap between the copper pipe will be too big. Can anybody tell me how best to get the new valve in place because even if I cut a section of pipe and put in a longer piece I won't be able to get it in place without being able to push the pipes back?

I am not a plumber... I now only purchase Peglar.

Years ago I used a generic lever valve from Toolstation. 3 years later, it snapped and caused about 15K of damage.

I am now happy to pay a premium for the likes of Peglar- and yeah, I guess that they are now made in China- but I hope they are manufactured to a higher standard.

Thanks Gasguru, that is exactly what I need. I've fitted a temporary stop end until I can get one of those.

Opps, yes I'm going through and replacing all my old gate valves with Pegler ones. Unfortunately there are 3 on 28mm pipe and the lever valves are about £35 each in screwfix

Pegler not Peglar. I never use anything else. Now part of Dutch company Aalberts. I believe their Doncaster factory is closing or may have already done so. Other factories, says Wikipedia, in Leeds, Hungary and China. If Leeds is still in business, I wonder for how long? Hope the quality survives.

Apropos of nothing, my long-dead dad, born and bred in Leeds, worked for what was then called Yorkshire Copper Works - or Yorkshire Fittings, or Yorkshire Whothehellknowswhat, dunno but Yorkshire something - which was latterly part of Pegler, for a number of years in the 1950s. There was also lots of light manufacturing for at least a decade after that in North-West Derbyshire where we lived after that. Filthy old factories, downtrodden workforce, absent managers. Working in Japan in the 1980s and visiting spotless factories with everyone engaged and working harmoniously together was a revelation. Sorry, boring stuff from an old fart, as old farts are prone to emit.

I remember Yorkshire Imperial Metals as manufacturers of several types of plumbing fittings and of course pipe. The best flux for capillary fittings was Yorkshire (active) Flux that never failed to produce sound joints (y)

Pegler Doncaster now closed indeed a lot of equipment has just been listed on a auction site.
Now just a distribution center left at Kirk Sandall.
Watch the quality go downhill !

Is that the full bore PB300?

Seems to vary a lot in price.

Yes, that's the one. They are £34.54 in Screwfix. Thanks for the link - that is a much more reasonable price !

Not sure what the delivery cost is, but I did see that there some available via ebay and Amazon.

the following is only £17- with free delivery if you have Prime, but there is only one in stock.
