I'm trying to replace a faulty gate valve on a 22mm copper hot water pipe from a vented hot water cylinder. I've drained it down and undone the compression fittings but there isn't any play in the pipes (all welded joints except for the compression joints on the gate valve). In order to remove the valve I have had to cut the pipe as near to the olive as I can get. I'm replacing with a Pegler lever ball valve but now the gap between the copper pipe will be too big. Can anybody tell me how best to get the new valve in place because even if I cut a section of pipe and put in a longer piece I won't be able to get it in place without being able to push the pipes back?
