Confronting racism. BBC report on a very brave lady

Simple point that always gets missed in these stories and threads which aren't picked up on because racism on a forum is always top of the agenda lately.

In Jeds link on the BBC, why is it that we know the name of the DJ and the BBC, (who got it wrong and backtracked), yet the pc, to$$er with nothing better to do in his boring life than stir trouble is never held to account?

I think this is important because no matter what side of the argument any of us are on here - it does neither side any favours! He or she is the pernicious one so name, shame and preferably sack the pc moron, and make a statement for once, just once for a change, for anyone else who want to be so damn pathetic!

Ah, but it doesn't matter. Let's just brush that under the carpet shall we. There are far more important things than eliminating people who are really stirring racism. I know, let's attack some posters on a forum.

...... For the record, let me say that I cannot see why there was any reason to dislike Jews or Irish people.

As is the way of these things, it is well-nigh impossible to have a serious debate on race in particular nowadays, without it degenerating into accusations of racism, and displays of racism (whether real, or intended to provoke a reaction, and not meant or felt). That said, aome years ago, I was a-wondering.......

The Jews have been hated by some for thousands of years; it is not a phenomenon of Hitler alone. I wondered why, and so mooched around a bit.

The most coherent "rational" explanation offered for this appeared to be that jewish people were often the money lenders in early societies, and were therefore obviously figures of dislike and mistrust.

Although, there is always that (probably innate) human trait - to group with one's "own" kind, against those that are "different".

Also Christian blame for crucifying Jesus.

I was under the impression that anti-semitism predated Jesus, but I stand to be corrected.
I don't doubt your statement as being another factor though.

Hardly brushed under the carpet here when it was raised out of context to the OP, mentioned by (I think) RH and again by yourself.

But how many replies actually dealt with the OP content directly?

So the DJ story got MORE attention in this thread than the OP! ( I also think it was a ridiculous chain of events! ESP after listening to the DJ explanation)

The Romans/Greeks didn't like mono theism, (but strictly speaking Semetic people included more than Jews )

The Christian exclusion on others lending money, and exclusion on Jews owning property or joining other professions led to them becoming the moneylenders with as you say, predictable resentment.

Then often when those that owed a lot of money found it easier to get rid of the Jews than pay them back, we had another pogrom, dressed up with religios zeal.

OK, let's look at it another way.

Do you have any theories why 'racists' are presently picking on muslims and black people, yet not on other ethnic minorities?

Surely, there must be a reason why they are being singled out.

I would say current wave of Islamaphobia is linked to 9/11 and involvement in subsequent conflicts.

I don't think there is a general increase of racism directed at black people. (The board members here have just maintained their antipathy)

It has become more anti immigrant, especially those of a darker hue, although as I said, the Poles were the target for some. For example, not much suspicion of white American immigrants.

Yes, it certainly 'kicked-off' after that. But for me, my biggest or indeed only objection to ‘their’ way of life is the restriction on free speech; issuing a fatwa on anyone who dare speak out and dare to restrict how The West should behave and what we can or cannot say.

I cannot say if it is all, most or a very small minority of them, but it is there and very real threat, as we know. I am old enough to remember Salmon Rushdie having to go into hiding for decades! That anyone in the Western world should have to live in fear of their own life like that over words should be as equally abhorrent as the racism we keep talking about. Like all religions and religious people, they say it’s open to interpretation. (What a cop-out!)

To directly address the O/P and give my opinion for what it’s worth. I think Mo is wonderful and deserves a medal! I didn’t say it, or more, earlier on because to me it should be obvious.

Tone-

Like yourself, I don't agree with religion dictating how people live.

However dismissive I am of Islam as a creed, my attitude is that I don't judge anyone simply because they are a Muslim. The problem I have with bigotry is that it does not allow you to judge a person on how they act and behave - you prejudge them based on the group you have put them into.

Your comment on the OP probably highlights a turn of phrase :

Good News is No News

:D

Not sure if I understand your last comment, but no matter.. (I'm stressed at the moment).

I know, have met and work with more Muslims than I could possibly ever say. Not one, and I DO mean not one, has ever been anything other than, professional, kind, caring, generous and some are dear friends I keep in touch with. Not one has been a fanatic or countenanced the abhorrent behaviours of the few we hear of in the news.

So I hope you are not accusing me of prejudging based on what group they are in? I have said, and am speaking here, only on a religious ‘club’ which advocates killing if you dare say or draw the wrong thing. The Christian ‘club’ does not do that.

Is that fair or am I being racist 'again'?

No, wires crossed -

My 'you' after 'bigotry ' should read as 'one' as in 'does not allow one to judge' etc

My comment on the end was simply a reflection that we generally don't see much publicity given to good news stories - it's all 'Hell in a handcart' reporting that breeds this fear. I see plenty of good stuff going on everyday. This is a great place to live.

As for the Clubs, it is as ridiculopus to judge Islam on the actions of a small group as it is to say Christians are hateful nutters because of the KKK, IRA or UFF !

Noted on personal experience with Muslims, my expereinces are simlar but I've not met them all yet :D

And some of my best friends are racists........

And some of my best friends are racists........
Interesting, micilin.
I have, in my life, privately and publicly disassociated myself from racists and criminals, and they've known why.
You can choose your friends, and I do.

RH - it's an ironic take on the old 'some of my best friends are black' line, which is often preceded by the equally clichéd 'I'm not racist, but.....'

What about your employees? Do you sack them if you find out afterwards they are a member of the BNP or racist, or maybe just avail yourself of a bit of constructive dismissal?

Interesting. By "disassociated" meaning gone, distanced, don't talk with them or want to know them. And yet you don't do the same here. (Cough). If I weren't such a gentleman I might accuse you of walking the walk but not talking the talkies...

Methinks I know what's coming...
