Putting a toilet in the downstairs utility room. Drain dug to connect to main drain. Do I need to vent it? I can connect to the main soil stack which is on the wall outside the proposed new toilet. Are their any requirements as regards connecting to existing soil pipe?

If there is a stack outside the proposed WC then why have you dug down to the drain? If going to underground drain then provided the height difference between the WC outlet and drain is <1.3m then no ventilation is required. Make sure drain run is accessible for clearing though should need ever arise.

However, if stack is outside then has to be easier to just T into that.....

Sorry should have said stack is approx 1.5 mtre away from where toilet waste will come out at ground level. Don`t think there would be enough slope to connect to stack above ground.

Depending on depth of drain, it still would be easier to Tee into the stack, even if the Tee is partly below ground level and run from there to proposed WC position than putting in a new underground run. Just make sure any exposed pipework at ground level is suitably protected against accidental damage.
