Does this seem standard for a single phase contactor?

What are you controlling? There’s often no need to switch the neutral.

There’s often no need to switch the neutral.

Switching the Neutral to a heating element does provide total isolation if ( when ) the element develops a fault and the Neutral to Earth fault trips the RCD even though the Live is switched OFF

Whilst that is true, one would imagine that there would probably me some other ('more certain') means of switching/isolating the element (which could be DP) other than just the contactor, wouldn't one?

Kind Regards, John

A contactor is VERY rarely used as a means of isolation, but more as functional switching, where single pole switching is the norm. A contractor is often used to switch 2, 3, or 4 circuits concurrently.
