I think that the OP has made it perfectly clear that he is happy with his experience with Worcester and wishes to stay with them , really cant understand some of the comments of so called professionals on this post
My point is not aimed at there maitanance... They are well trained and well backed up... I would however say their sub contracters installations are not as good, possibly because of poor installation prices.
I'm very interested in the possibility of installing a shower pump, which if it would work with our current system would almost certainly negate the need for a boiler change to improve the hot water supply to a shower. I think its best to start a new thread in order to focus specifically on that possibility.
Meantime many thanks (again) for all responses to my query about conventional versus combi.

Thanks for that. I am happy with Worcester and when we do decide to change the boiler thats what I'll be going for. Meantime as suggested above I'm going to explore another route, because it is mainly the lack of a decent shower which has stimulated this discussion in our household, and it would be ridiculous if we spent two and a half grand changing a boiler when we could address the problem with a shower pump for a lot less.
On reflection I think I can cope with tanks in the loft, though a shower thats adequate in summer but nowt much more than a trickle in winter is a pretty significant problem.
An alternative for having mains pressure showers is a second coil in the top of the cylinder to heat mains pressure water using heat from the water in the cylinder. Does not require any shower pumps. The second coil is the green/orange item.
Low pressure hot water for taps and basins is supplied from the cylinder.

I would send you a pic of how much my Mrs loves our combi shower but sadly @jeff the gasman would need longer socks so it is over to you and Benny to work out what you really want
Fireman you're a top bloke, thank you so much for doing this.
I have been a donor with a very old tatty card for years now. I have now reconfirmed my being a donor, ensured all my details on their system are bang up to date and got myself a new card.
AND, most importantly, I have told those close to me in the family that I am more than happy to donate anything of use when the time comes.

TBH, the matter is close to my heart. My son suffered from kidney failure. He was only 28, and on dialysis for 3 years. He had FIVE failed runs to the hospital which result in cancellation for one reason or another (no criticism implied, BTW), and finally had a transplant 3 years ago. The KF changed his life massively for the worse, and was the most traumatic time in my life. (And I have had a few problems myself.). The amazing gift has allowed him to get his life back on track - but, unfortunately, we know that a transplant is only temporary.
So, a big thanks in advance for anyone who may be moved to consider signing up, it is easy.
