Cordless drills and lithium batteries

Hi,

I have an old 9.6V Bosch cordless drill which has served me well. It's only real drawbacks are its limited battery life between charges, and a fairly long charging time.

I am now looking at getting a new drill, and am seeking advice on which battery technology to go for. Would it be better to get a lithium-ion model, or stick with NiCd / NiMH but at a higher voltage ? There seems to be quite a big price premium for lithium.

The drill would only be used for light internal work with wood or metal (not masonry).

go for Li-ion if you can afford but as you have eluded to you can get a lot more for your money if you go back a technology or two

if you want to use your old tools with new batteries or new tools with old batteries then choose dewalt or ryobi both are forward and backwards compatable the only requirement is you need the newest charger for the newer battery types but they are backwards compatable

because you are diy i would strongly recomend ryobi there are over 20 tools for the home and garden that fit the same batteries
