Builder has core drilled through the wall and hit the end of Lintel and metal is showing. End of Lintel approx 300mm from the edge of the window.

He is trying to to install a kitchen Extractor Fan.

Advised he will fill hole with expanding foam.

I'm concerned any advice I'd be really grateful... thank you

In my humble opinion I don't it as a problem. Is it just the end of the lintel nipped? What size span is the window?
He'll obviously be fitting a metal sleeve through the wall which'll have a louvre cover on the outside and the flexi vent pipe shown will attach on the inside.
Filling with expanding foam around said pipe, then re-plastering / making good, is fine.

I think we need more information, such as what does the lintel support, and what is below it. Maybe a wider view of both inside and exterior?

Thank you both for your replies.

Sorry about my effort trying to attach pictures !

Originally the lintel supported a smaller kitchen window and the back door.

The window was moved over (design of new kitchen) and the back door bricked up half way to create a large window as in pic's hope that makes sense )

The builder is not installing a metal sleeve through the wall as can't get anything to fit.

He has stuck the ducting to the inside wall and outside wall has installed an a large air vent.

After I've seen what has been done alarm bells started ringing !!!

To my eye, the lintel looks well-supported, so I wouldn't be worried. However, those pipes look a bit of a mess, are they just temporary?

Not temporary... This is the finished job !!

Builder said not drilling no more through the lintel (which is a relief) but I'm sure there must be a better way of installing an external vent than leave it like this ?

Good grief, the guy that did that must used a white stick - it's an horrible mess.

The white square vent panel, behind the rain hopper, is that the outside of your new extract vent? If so, might be the photo, but it seems to be mounted upside down - so it will allow rain water in, rather keep it out..

Finished extractor ducting

Better, would have been a rigid pipe, set higher at the fan end, low at the wall so any condensation drained out. The flexible will restrict the flow.

I would get the guy back who did those white drains back, and ask him to think again. It seems to me, that all three of those could discharge into a single, neat pipe, then into the hopper. Pipe clips would also not go amiss, or the first time the wind blows, you may be chasing those pipes down the road.

You certainly don't want the extractor venting into the cavity. Just be sure that the pipe is properly connected to the outside vent cover. Personally, I'd be using the metal sleeve. The flexi pipes aren't very strong and are easily snagged. Also, you don't want to be plastering around a flexi-pipe.

Forgive my ignorance (or stupidity) would you be able to send me links or pictures of an example of a rigid pipe please ?

Similar to those plastic fall pipes, on your outside wall, but with a diameter to suit.
