hi,
i need to lay 18mm ply in my conservatory because i need access to a manhole cover in the middle of the floor what would be the best way to lay the ply ie, left floating or screwed down, if screwed down what screws shoud i use.

Why do you need to lay plywood?

Why not fit a recessed sealed cover?

For ease really, the wife wants carpet tiles laid in the conservatory asap so our 17 month old daughter can have another play zone, plus it would be warmer underfoot than laying straight onto concrete

maybe a floating floor on an insulating slab?

might be better in the "flooring" section

17month old on a concrete floor with no insulation, plywood or no plywood that sounds kinda mean!

The idea that plywood is going to make the floor feel warmer, is a misconception. Most houses have a concrete floor which when carpet or carpet tiles are laid and are not cold.

But if you want to plyboard, then screw it down with some brown plugs and nr 10 screws to give at least 30mm fixing into the floor.

T&G chipboard flooring would be better, but if using ply, it may also be an idea to chamfer the edges so that one board laps another to prevent one board being higher than another and forming a ridge in the tiles
