covid 19 home testing

The 100,000 per day doesn't include antibody tests. The Porton Down testing is specialised surveillance testing where sample community populations are tested to help with understanding and modelling of the spread of the disease. It's more accurate than the standard antigen testing and is limited in the numbers that can be processed.

We'll see.

Stop being a complete arse. He was doing a piece that explained the various tests and processes in straightforward language. It wasn't intended to confirm or deny that he is/has been infected. It was intended to show how an antibody test is conducted. It was made clear this was an unapproved test and that there are none approved right now. It was made clear the test result may not be accurate. Jeez.

At least a week ago (I think on the PM prog, R4) there was a UK company (not the NI one) that had a dual test antigen and antibody, takes 10 mins, with a 99.6% and 97% accuracy rate, ready to go. In what the guy didn't say outright... he said the gov were being 'kin useless in discussions. Oh, £6/per test.

I used to have a 42footer at chichester. Bloody nice boat.

Flipped through lasers etc but found my vocation windsurfing and stuck with kite boarding today love it.
Big boat to have at Chichester. Must have been a pain with the bar and lock?

Really it's pretty clear that the main problem is lack of Chine, Korea, Singapore people tracking but if we had it the number of tests that we can do may have prevented even that from working as well as it has for them. ;) Maybe the Germans have sufficient fluent Mandarin speakers to translate their software.

The Irish are going to manually track via interviews - didn't work out very well for us did it but their health man has said he will track them out of it.

100,000 tests and amazon. Can't see their drivers using swabs. They might collect and send to labs. More likely delivering immunity test kits and not to everybody. It's not that easy to be sure tests are 100% so the suggestion of Porton being used to check isn't daft.

I notice the thread spammer is at it again. Wonder why.

The govt dont seem to be clear on this, in fact its rather vague

The new 5-pillar plan outlines the ambitions to:

  • Scale up swab testing in PHE labs and NHS hospitals for those with a medical need and the most critical workers to 25,000 a day by mid to late April;
  • Deliver increased commercial swab testing for critical key workers in the NHS, before then expanding to key workers in other sectors;
  • Develop blood testing to help know if people have the right antibodies and so have high levels of immunity to coronavirus;
  • Conduct surveillance testing to learn more about the spread of the disease and help develop new tests and treatments; and
  • Create a new National Effort for testing, to build a mass-testing capacity at a completely new scale.
full statement here:
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/...n-to-carry-out-100000-coronavirus-tests-a-day

the 100,000 target is only expected to be reached by the end of April -ideally we need it sooner, since the rise of the peak will be mid April -which when the highest levels of NHS demand will start to be needed, lets hope they can get key staff tested and back to work before then.

I thought Matt Hancock was good last night, he certainly allowed a lot of questions and not just from their favoured media.

Matt Hancock just confirmed again a moment ago on Sky that the 100,000 does not include antibody tests because he doesn't have one yet that works so he hasn't included them in the testing plan.
thanks I hadnt seen that.

they are right to test the tests :)
no point having false negs and false positives

I had to go to doctors today, that has been only trip out since lock down, once for wife, and once for me, met at the door, and they test temperature, it would seem those infected have different temperature so that's one way to protect doctors staff.

The people tracking thing is unfortunately a bit iffy due to GDPR.

that's not what he said at 8.00

Not everyone with Covid-19 has an elevated temperature. And just to be awkward not everyone with a temperature has Covid-19.

I'd say it's better than nothing but if you assume that because you don't have a temperature and neither does your friends you're all fine to meet up then it is worse than nothing.
