Hi all,
I have a crabtree starbreaker consumer unit which brand new about 3 yrs ago, just before the wiring regs changed. The rest of the wiring is a mix of original 1971, or added when the consumer unit was put in. I now want some work done on the kitchen electrics, so need to upgrade the consumer unit. An electrician will be doing the work (for part P), but I want to understand what can be done and what is involved. The first guy who looked at it wanted to rip it out and fit a new unit, but he didn't know what an RCBO is!
Basically two questions:
1) Can this consumer unit be upgraded to have an RCD for the first 5 channels in the same way that it's already got an RCD for the channels on the right? If so, how?
2) Can I replace the MCBs on the left half with RCBOs? If so, what type do I need?
