Hi everyone,

This is one of my first posts on here. I've decided to carry out some small to medium home improvements, and the first job is the stairs.

There is a loud (enough to wake up my gf) squeek / creek emitted on every step, including the middle landing.

There is carpet down at the minute but i'm planning on taking it up.

How can I best fix the stairs?

Thanks

Poorly built and installed stairs coupled with a chipboard floor.

You have my sympathy.

How can I best fix the stairs?
Thicker carpet?

Remove the stair ceiling, improve the stringer fixing to the wall, knock the tread and riser wedges in, add some glue to the joints, fill any gaps or hollows between the stringer and the wall with ex- foam.

I have assumed your stairs are up against a wall....

Stop trying to sneak in at 3 o clock in the morning, or buy her a pair of earplugs.
