Current distance between gas hob and extractor?

What minimum distance does the hob instructions state? At the end of the job, it will probably depend on the output of the hob and frequency of burner use.

They (BCO's) are a lot more individually accountable these days.

Should be between 650mm and 750mm unless manufacturer's instructions say different.
It's not a BCO's job to get their hands dirty.
I've got a crappo extractor with no instructions but I've gone for 750mm to play it safe.
If it sounds like I don't have much love for the BCO, he commented because I was doing major works at the same time as fitting a new kitchen I'd have to have a vent outside. I asked him how this is possible when cutting through several joists to get the 110mm vent pipe outside would move the bedroom into the kitchen and he just shrugged.
Unsure if that's a future battle or if he'll see common sense!

BCO's are not there to advise you, it's up to you to satisfy the regs. Sounds like you're doing it on a Notice and just making it up as you go along. BCO's love that approach. Someone is lacking common sense in this thread, I don't think it's the BCO.

We have had to go from ground floor up through the first floor, through the loft space and out through the roof, to vent a mechanical extractor in the past, when servicing a downstair loo marooned in the centre of a house. We had to facilitate this with a vented pitched multi-slate a good six weeks prior to altering the downstairs, when we re-furb'd the roof.
You should have thought about extraction - either above the hob or remote - when planning out your kitchen. Same for utility rooms. Same for bathrooms. No compromise. Its just a shame you don't know the reg's. Perhaps you should have called in a designer.
I haven't refurbished the roof though nor is there any means to get over to the soil pipe venting to the roof or boxing in an area in the bedroom directly above where the extractor pipe would go vertically. Retrospectively applying new-build rules to existing design is of course problematic.
