a standard brown plug requires a 7mm diameter hole. drilling a slightly smaller hole, (6mm or 6.5mm) in softer masonry, ensures a more snug fit. JohnD - thanks very much, the drill bit i am going to use is a 6mm so it should be OK. Off to get the longer screws now - well after end of football!
