Hi I am a cake maker, .............., I have a 15" wedding cake on the bottom and I want this to sit on a 19" board, which does not exist, I have spent the morning going to 4 woodwork shops and not one can cut out a 19" circle 1/2" thick in mdf  I remember a few years back the same thing with the outline of a life size guitar. \So as a last resort I want to know if I can do it mywself with a jigsaw, and suggestions or even places that would be obliging would be greatly appreciated.

Yes you could do that with a thin blade in a jigsaw, or you could use a router. Just don't use a reciprocating saw ;)

Oh thanks a lot !is it easy, or fairly straight forward, with the electric jigsaw, I am a perfectionist and do not want any straight edges

I don't think your woodworking shops are trying very hard...you could cut out the circle quite accurately using a jig saw though, and finish the edges with an orbital sander in no time at all.

Yes I know, it is terrible once upon a time people would help out, those days have GONE...off to buy some wood, thanks alot!

I have done it, perfect cicle just a little sanding at take off point...thanks a million for helping out, I can't believe how easy it was!!!THANKS

Hmmm, don't know who you went to, but they should be ashamed of themselves, it's really at the easy end of the DIY spectrum, still I'm glad it worked out, saved yourself a few quid as well no doubt.

I'm wondering what a cake maker is doing with a jigsaw in the first place . LOL

Sorry ;)

Just a H&S point make sure you wear a face mask when cutting and sanding MDF.
