Cutting slate??

I need to cut an oval shape out of a roofing slate, it's to help my friend out with a crafts type project.

How would you go about this? I need it to end up with a natural jagged type edge so can't use an angle grinder

Use angle grinder to make smaller hole then chip away edges with a pointed hammer.

You can use an ordinary hammer to nibble the edges if you place it on something solid and don't let it overhang by more than half inch.

Is there the money to buy a slate cutter - they are only about £20 I think...!

Yup, a quick google shows this - I used to have something very similar and it did the job perfectly !
