putting those black plastic grids over the deck means you may as well make the whole thing out of beer crates. Is it worth saving up to do it?
How about a bit of old carpet tacked down? It would look naff but should do the job as a temporary measure. Should be scroungable for free. Or you could go the whole hog and lay a nice red carpet strip. That will impress the neighbours!
