Simon, we got a memo down at work the other week, telling us to "give away remaining stock of CFLs to valued customers". Basically, they had over-allocated stock to stores months ago when the sun or mirror ran a giveaway or coupon promotion. My store was stuck with 160 packs. Each store got an amount of credit for a certain amount of lamps. They gave us credit for 180 (think they mis counted).

People were taking trays of them at a time! I didnt mind, gets them out of our warehouse. Trouble is, its a new estate where all the houses were fitted with funky energy saving fittings

Look on ebay you'll probably find dozens of postings for Osram CFLs

Indeed, Robert Dyas were selling 10 for £1 recently as a promotion. Think they were Osram low energy. We got some, not sure if I'll ever use them as all of our lightbulbs are energy saving candles or golf-balls.

It's OK, I've got 7 of them
I remember once connecting a 4ft fluorescent to a sigma switch pack thinking it was relay driven so would be OK, was fine when the fitting was lit but when switched off smoke came out of the switch pack

my local B&Q seems to have them on permanent special offer, 39p for 5 if my memory serves me right.

I've got more than I'll ever need now I'm sure.

And Simon, they are not being desperate, Morrisons sales were up 15% or something last year.
