Have a battery hammer drill .. DeWalt DW988. 18v XRP drill
It has a collar you rotate to select ‘drill’ or ‘hammer drill’

Sometimes it won’t rotate, and you can’t select hammer mode.
Other times it rotates as it should, and the hammer works fine.

It could be dust or crud in the selector, anybody familiar with the issue, or know how to dismantle the selector mechanism.

It will be a build up of dust etc as you say. Tried it with an older 12 volt model many years ago, the internal parts have to line up at specific points so unless you can get hold of a guide online (youtube or dewalt manual) you might not get it back together.

P.S I use Makita now and there a plenty of detailed guides to strip their tools down online - I have never found found any for Dewalt.

Plenty on youtube, I mean manufacturers guides.
