Hi,
We need to get a new double oven, preferably a self clean one.

I've seen this Di Dietrich one that has "Pyrolytic" cleaning. It is supposed to heat the oven to 500 degrees  to burn off any cooking debris. (it locks the door automatically after 300 deg)

Has anyone come across this facility and do you think it will make the appliance last a shorter time?

Thanks

That type of oven cleaning was popular about 25/30 years ago (Moffat)
It was superceded by self clean panels, which work at normal cooking temp, but of course the oven door would not be cleaned.
I am guessing you will pay a lot for the oven, a lot for the electricity, yes the oven will be clean.
The elements are designed to work at that temp so there should not be a problem with the life, probably things like the door seal will wear.

Hi,

We have a De-Dietrich single oven at our work with this cleaning method.
Seems to work ok but sometimes you do get a burning smell when it is cleaning.

On one occasion someone came in that was not aware it was cleaning,
Thought there was something wrong and switched it off at the wall.

This turned of the the fan as well and tripped the the high temp cut out.

required a visit by engineer to reset.
