Diamond core cutter not cutting very fast

Thanks for the in depth reply. It all makes sense and the tips of the cutter do feel smooth. I have a couple of spare breeze blocks left over from a build so I'll try your method first before hiring again and let you know if it sorts it.

Just a quick update. The method of cutting into breezeblock worked wonders and certainly sppeded up the cut into the brick. Still had problems with the inner material so chain drilled it and chiseled out.

you did take the pilot bit out didnt you ? as this would stop it cutting at the correct speed
 
Yeah, took the pilot bit out once the cutter had started cutting as directed. Can't imagine trying to make a hole that big without a pilot bit to guie cutter at start.

Was talking to the neighbours, he works for the council on property maint, said he's never experienced brick walls so hard, guess the house won't be falling down any time soon.

As it happens the wall I was going through contained an inner layer of hardened concrete! Guess that's where the problem was!!!
