...when turned on for the winter. Circuits seem OK so I tried replacing the room stat (part 86661). No change. I read somewhere that a reset might help. I assume the reset button is the little post with red dot under the stat as in the left of picture. Does anyone know if this is right and can that part be replaced. Thanks for any advice - I’m a reasonably competent non-electrician and only trying to solve this because I can’t interest any local electricians in storage heater work!

I assume you have pressed the button, do you have access to a multimeter

Thanks for the quick reply. Nothing happens when you try pressing the button - it'll twist round either way, that's all. I don't have a multimeter but could get hold of one to test what you would have suggested had I said yes!

If you pressed it, you would feel the clunky click if it reset. A multimeter would prove if the overheat has operated. Nothing red on the overheat cutout though - It's the black blob with two cables.

Take a wider shot of the controls. On some there are two thermal cutouts.

Wider shot attached. Definitely no click - nothing! If the overheat has operated (whatever that means!) what is the remedy??
Thanks for responding

Somewhat excessive - plus postage? :)

Just out of interest, the price is £4.69166r without the vat.

I wonder how they arrived at that figure.

There is a field repair kit which removes both of those cutouts and replaces with a single, newer combined unit. I would say this is most likely the problem, although should be tested before you waste money.

TBh I have bought spares from this outfit and they are quite good (not choc blocks)
