Thanks for the quick reply. Nothing happens when you try pressing the button - it'll twist round either way, that's all. I don't have a multimeter but could get hold of one to test what you would have suggested had I said yes!I assume you have pressed the button, do you have access to a multimeter

Wider shot attached. Definitely no click - nothing! If the overheat has operated (whatever that means!) what is the remedy??If you pressed it, you would feel the clunky click if it reset. A multimeter would prove if the overheat has operated. Nothing red on the overheat cutout though - It's the black blob with two cables.
Take a wider shot of the controls. On some there are two thermal cutouts.

Both replaceable by one unit it appears, really need to test for continuity through both
