Fairly certain what the advice will be (call gas safe registered guys out) but just want to check...

Have just moved into a new secondhand house and behind the built-under electric oven have discovered a gas pipe which because of its location and lack of bayonet fitting etc I assume must have fed a previously fitted gas hob (now ceramic hob in place). At the end of the pipe is a compression (fan key) isolator valve in the off position. I assume this is not really sufficient as key could get knocked and as there is gas in pipe and the outlet side is open, gas leak here we come followed by BOOM!!!..
What are the options to making truly safe, is it possible to seal off the open side with a fitting (sealed nut?) or should the valve be removed and replaced (by suitably qualified guy) with an end cap on the pipe?

Thanks

Behave kirk and who the fek are you going to name on riddor.

Removal of tap would be the better option and sealing it proper with cap

a riddor is not personal, its an occurance, not to do with the actions or intentions of an individual.

Before you RIDDOR it it would probably be wise to check if it is connected to a live gas supply.
