it was said a bit 'tongue in cheek' (or is that swab in cheek?), but i'll be honest, i have no idea how they will do it. I was trying to demonstrate a broad principle. So can you enlighten us then?
from what i understand the way it will work is
i have my dna taken, they then assign it a number for this purpose we shall call it 12345a
then some horrendous crime is committed, they come up with the dna for this crime (im not sure what i will do, but as i get wound pretty quickly, im sure it would be a murder of some kind!!!)
they then put it into their database and it matches mine
the next step is to go to a judge and prove that the dna is a positive match then he gives the nod with a court order, then they can get the details for dna sample 12345a and then come around and arrest me for said murder of a slightly grumpy guy who refused to pay me.
this is how it was explained on the radio.
so that way no ordinary copper can go snooping / setting up innocent people.
im sure someone will have lots to add to that, if i missed something my apologies.

Yes, I believe dandruff is an excellent source of DNA.
It should be every individuals right to decide whether they become part of the bureaucratic system or not, The recent events show up the system for what it's worth, I'm personally not happy that so much information is readly available about myself. My life should be as private as i wish it to be and damn those that think otherwise!

It's not private whilst you have a name, a driving licence, a NI number - and a head on your shoulders with a face on it. And you can get finger printed wherever you go so what are you bleating about? It's just an upmarket fingerprint.
if you could know for certain that this government would hold a database for fighting crime this would not be quite such a bitter pill to swallow.trouble is we all know that this is not the case and it could be sold to whoever for whatever reason.this government in many ways is no better than the criminals it is trying to fight.to think that we are whiter than white on the world stage is a gross miscalculation on our part.

As long as you don't commit murder, rape someone or indeed carry out any criminal act, what do you have to worry about? I for one would have no hesitation in agreeing to my DNA being added to such a data base. It must be very difficult for a person to carry out a crime without leaving traces of his DNA. If someone you knew was the victim of crime, serious or otherwise, wouldn't you be glad if they were caught quickly because of the availability of a National DNA Database?

Why aren't the human rights lawyers jumping on this and stopping it from happening if you've done nothing wrong the establesment have no need for anyones DNA.And if it so important would it have stopped the shooting of an innocent man on the underground NO.
So as a 'supporter' of this database, have you volunteered your DNA yet?
trouble is mate,i dont want to be on it,i felt backed into a corner by an establishment that claims to want to protect me.its not a nice position to be in you either give consent or they take it by force.we are starting to live under a dictatorship where the law is changed regulary to suit the establishments own ends.is this democratic?
my human right to anonymity has been violated and there is nothing i can do about. it do you see this first stepdown a very dangerous road acceptable?
