Morning,
I'm going to replace my old 15mm water pipe (lead?) with 25mm mdpe. Ill be doing the trench and laying the pipe etc for Thames Water to connect.
Query is should I get the communication pipe replaced which is almost certainly 15mm?
People generally seem not to and get much better flow just from the new 25mm pipe run.
Thames Water want £500+ to replace the communication pipe....
If its relevant I do have a water meter.
Thanks.

What do you mean by the communication pipe?

Its the pipe that runs from the water meter / stop cock to the water main in the street (see diagram below).

Ah, I never knew that (y)

If you meter is new(ish) it will have 25mm connections so the communication pipe may already have been replaced/renewed.

Yes my hope is that that it was replaced when they did the meter but they might have done a cheapo job and just tied into the existing lead pipe. Only know when I dig I guess...
