I need to patch up the dot and dab wall. There is a copper (gas) pipe (marked in red).

Is it okay to for gyproc easi filler to come in direct contact with the gas pipe?

Or do i need to protect it with something like denso tape?

Probably the right thing to do is to protect it but my copper gas pipe has been in a plastered wall, unprotected for nearly 30 years now.

Yes your copper pipe should be protected from potential corrosion, so use Denso tape. Ensure the gas pipe has been tested if it has been disturbed. @Mottie - yours could have been acceptable to be installed that way at the time, standards do change.

Got to admit that i knew the answer, i was secretly hoping for a different answer though.

Are there any alternatives to using denso tape?

I have some old dpc lying around. Can you use that?

Can you get a piece of slightly larger plastic pipe, cut it down the centre, and then snap it around the gas pipe?

A gas pipe behind the plasterboard should also be fully encased in dot and dab. Electric cable should have a minimum of 25mm separation.
Check the regulations

Presumably so that if the pipe is drilled into , the gas escapes into the room and not a void behind the p/board. ?

Are you saying that i need to keep the gas pipe as close to the surface as possible and not try to bury it behind plasterboard?

The existing gas pipe was already pretty flush with the surrounding plasterboard.

The cable is for a 24v doorbell, so does reg apply here?

Gas pipes are frequently hidden, it's how you do it safely that counts. Fully encase it with dab.

Thanks.

I lightly nicked the gas pipe with my multitool about a couple weeks ago.

A gas engineer came over to replace a gas valve and pcb on my boiler. He also did a gas tightness test.

I mentioned nicking the gas pipe and he without looking at it, he said it would be fine based on the test he'd done on the boiler.

Is this correct or should i get this checked out again before covering the pipe?
