Enquired about this course at a private training outfit today in Wolverhampton

The manager was very articulate in saying how great the demand would be for assessors and how much they would be earning. Also that every home would need them by 2010 blah blah blah.

After 25 mins of sales spiel came the price......... 10 full days training plus all literature for only £4200

I shall be looking elsewhere

Estate agents will employ their own. You won't get a look in. £50K per year for virtually no training? License to print money? No way.

You'll be lucky to get your money back - never mind earn a living.

There are thousands already in training - too many for the needs of the housing market. The Estate Agent already measures up the rooms - they'll all have their own license. Look elsewhere for your crock of gold.

have to agree with joe as most estate agent round here think they are going to get very rich by training for this and certainly won't be farming out the work

The going rate will be down to £50 or less within no time and has been prooved already they'll be worthless bits of paper. It will go the way of CP12's ie mostly fraudulent with the estate agents making a hefty markup on them.

Load of misguided nonsense. You can only tell the true energy efficiency of a property by ripping it to bits and that ain't gonna happen...cue very disgruntled owners and stressed out energy assessors.

True winners are the training parasites.

i agree
i'd love them to come to my house and assess it i'd have them for fookin breakfast
i have 3 heating zones, solar, sedbuk a boiler, complete rewire in last 18 months, new plumbing including pumped hot water linked to solar system more loft insulation than any house i know of (about 500mm) cavity insulation, bay window insulation, 3 frost stats, 3 programmable roomstats, twin coil 2 stat unvented cylinder
they would be out of their depth before they got out of the hallway!

If anybody buys your place, they may save fuel costs, (though minimal) but this will be overtaken by maintenance costs.

An infra red image of the building is also very effective at showing heat loss. The trick is to leave the heating off until the house has cooled down and then take the photos. Include a bit of the next door house with heat streaming out of it to show how much better the house in question is compared to other normal houses.

True winners are the training parasites.

But of course.

Hips oppo's not overjoyed down our way .

here]

Inspectors left out of pocket by dearth of HIPs business

There are enough Estate agents to sell houses, and they have to measure up the house for a listing. They'll simply tag on the other bits of the energy assessment and offer it to you as part of the service. The major Agents will all employ their own assessors. They won't need some dumb housewife that was duped into paying £10,000 on training to be an assessor in the hope of earning £50K per year.
