Hi , I'm putting a lintel in and need to cut out the aperture for door . I wondered if there was a recommended standard height between the floor to the under surface of a lintel for a standard door(1981mm high)? Do you simply add the height of the door(1981mm)and the thickness of the door frame at the top?(27mm) , and use this as you aperture height ?, and then trim the door to suite flooring thicknesses and gaps,etc..?

You try never to cut the door - in fact for fire doors you aren't allowed to do that in any case. Even for non fire doors you don't have a lot of trimming margin, so it's better to get the door swung without cutting it. So, starting from the finished floor level (i.e the top surface of the carpet, vinyl, laminate, etc) you add 4mm gap at the bottom, plus the height of the door, plus 3mm gap at the top, plus the thickness of the door frame/casing/lining plus 5 to 10mm of clearance (it generally being darned near impossible to guarantee getting a steel and floor both in millimetre perfect). That would put your lintel at 2020 to 2025 above FFL assuming a 1981 foor and a (thin) 27mm casing
