I recently had a new carpet fitted in a bedroom. The carpet is good. However because of the thickness of the carpet and the 8mm underlay, the door is very stiff and only partially opens.

I've looked online to search for a door trimming service, but most companies shown don't seem to specialise in that specifically so I'm not sure how good they would be.

What type of tradesman exactly would you recommend looking for to ensure a good quality job?

Also, what would be the approx price to trim one door?

Thanks.

Handyman or odd job man. In theory a chippy (carpenter) but you'll be struggling to get anyone to show up at the moment.

Otherwise buy a belt sander or plane for £20 and give it a go.

Thanks.

Another question. Does a handyman take the door outside to trim it so they don't make dust and mess indoors?

If you specifically ask him/her to otherwise would likely just a dustsheet and dustbag or vac, some could even use a multi tool

whats your location, you might find somebody on here

failing that ask on your local facebook group

the people who have the specialist door trimming saws tend to be carpet fitters :)

or just hire a door trimming saw and do it yourself

I’d think a door trimming saw is the best bet.
although I did mine with a festool track saw in situ.

I live in the Nottingham area.

I had a look online again. I see there's a company that does door trimming for £35 per door which seems a good price. However, I can't find any reviews for the company. Should the lack of reviews not matter as its a small job?

do you have a "nextdoor" forum in your area? nextdoor.co.uk - ask on there. I always trim doors with a track saw - fast, clean, accurate.
