Drayton LP711 LCD light always on?

Just installed a Drayton LP711 as a replacement for LP111. The LCD light didnt work on the 111. When i put the 711 in, the LCD light (illuminates the display/clock part) stays on all the time - is this right? It doesnt bother me, but obviously if it is on all the time then the led lifetime will be drastically reduced.
I didnt swap any wiring on the backplate - just a straight swap.

Any ideas or is it meant to be that way?

I think you mean the lcd is backlit.That allows people to see the display when the unit is fitted in dark cupboards as they often are.As long as the system operates as it should, no worries.
