Hello.

This morning I was hanging a picture, and drilled into the wall - then all the lights went out - so had obviously hit a wire.

On this wall there is an old light switch - which has never worked - so I didn't really think about it to be honest... I never expected there to be wires in the section of wall I drilled into - it is far away from the old socket and up quite high.

Please, can someone tell me what should I do?

its imperative that you take action. the mcb for the circuit should be left off (thats if it would allow you to reset). or if your on fuses you should not replace the fuse without repairing the cable.

the damaged cable requires repairing (preferably replacing).
