Drilling Through Soldier Course

Evening all,

I'm trying to install an extractor fan above a window opening (there really is nowhere better!) and am concerned about making a 100mm hole through the soldier course of a solid brick wall. Above the window is a flat concrete roof. Is this likely to have an impact on the wall?

If you are drilling through the soldier course, you will probably be drilling through a lintel behind it, which is a big no no.

What’s to stop you core drilling through the concrete roof?

If the room is wider than the window then there would normally be somewhere else for the fan

Optimum position for a wall fan is 1800mm from the floor, 300mm from a corner and diagonally opposite the door. Or directly above a hob or shower.
