Must a metal kitchen sink have to be bonded to the water supply pipes if they are copper. Or is the physical connection of the tap to the sink adequate.

In the 15th Edition, it was deemed necessary to bond kitchen sinks to the pipework. The connection between sink and tap was often unreliable due to the presence of nylon spacers, washers and plumber's mate.

However, in the 16th, there is no mention of supplementary bonding in the kitchen. It is deemed dangerous to do so because of parallel earth paths.

There are no requirements for equipotential bonding in kitchens (anymore)

Thanks guys

Reason for asking was that sticker on sink said to Postively Earth Bond, whereas plumber said not necessary.

Hence was much confused.

It's not so much change their minds as learning from experience " in the field ".

We are guinea pigs for the regs: if they get reports or their tests show revisions are needed, they are made for the next edition.
