Earthing Nuts

When using earthing nuts do you still use a lock ring to secure the gland to the box and then fit the earth nut , as to me it would seem that by tightening the lock ring down first would give a better mechanical joint and the to use the earthing nut for improved conductivity

no, the earth nut is all you need..
the smaller ones are threaded so act as a thick locknut.. and have the grub screws as an added bonus..
 
With the serations under the brass earthing nut it also bites and holds much better than a standard lock nut does.
