Extending a ring final circuit in a butchery and noticed a slight issue that would have been present from the day the site opened!

Going by the flex entry into the back box I would say the scales installers are to blame for this one!

What's the problem?!

There's already two wires in the bottom terminal, much more room in the top one!

To be fair, the scale is connected to the earth terminal, and it's the installation that's technically wrong

The installation wiring is connected into the terminal labelled 'loop'

Even I could tell in about 1 second what the fault was there, and I normally have to study these pictures for ages to spot the fault (if I even spot it! :p).

To be honest, I never know why they label the two terminals, they can be used for either (although I don't like using them as live 'loops'!).

Also, why do they state a "top" when you can place the box either way around and there is a drillable drain hole top and bottom too!

Seems to be an MK thing since the beginning of time (well the 60s anyway) - their shallow pattresses have always had a largely irrelevant 'TOP'. I wonder if there ever was an original purpose to it?

They probbaly had lots of numpties ringing the helpline to ask which way up they should go, and adding "top" was easier than telling people it didn't matter.

As far as I can recall, isn't the flex supposed to exit through the faceplace of the fused-spur, through the cordgripper, and via a sealable channel in the front flip-over lid for an overall seal?

Yes, but maybe they didn't need the full IP Monty, just a robust plastic enclosure with a lid over the switch?
