Hi All

I have a couple of questions and I hope you can help.

My electrician has left a cable running under my bathroom floorboards just in case I need to connect an electric towel radiator. He left a spur prepared out on the landing etc.

Instead I want to use this cable to power my Aqualisa Quartz shower mixer but my electrician has disappeared of the face of the earth and I'm now trying to call in another person.

Q1: I'm well aware that I'm not legally allowed to carry out any wiring work in the bathroom, but I'm not sure what constitutes "me doing the work". Can I take this loose cable and move it to its final location so that the joiner can get the floor down?

Q2: The shower instructions state that the processor can go under the bath but doesn't go into much more detail. Should a waterproof cable outlet box be used in this location?

Thanks in advance

In case it helps, most people locate the Quartz unit away from the shower outlet, say in the loft or an airing cupboard.

Even if the cable has to enter the bathroom, then there is still no legal duty that prevents you doing the work, only on the standard of work that you do and who you notify that you're going to do it.

Thanks Softus.

unfortunately there's no feasible place to put the processor other than under the bath.

No - you're well wrong. Read the Wiki article on DIY Electrical Work and the Law in the Part P section.

Exile, you thanked me but appear not to have understood me. For from being unfortunate, under the bath is rather handy because it won't be exposed, nor will its electrical supply, and I understand that the latter is already there so you won't have to be running the new circuit.

As for this:

... I wish I'd mentioned that first, since it's about the best written article ever, on any subject, that I've ever seen. Ever.

have you and ban kissed and made up then?

What are the laws on electrical work in bathrooms in Scotland anyway?

It's pointless asking me, since his action was unilateral.

However, my comment about the Wiki article still applies, simply because it's true.
