Hi all,

About to start some major renovations of the bathroom. This will require the removal of the boiler and likely not be a new one installed for about 6 months. (new extension)

If i drain down the system and just leave all the rads empty will they it be ok when the new boiler goes on?

I don't need to leave it all with water and inhibitor in all the rads?

If it was mine then I would keep the rads full so they are inhibited and don't rust from the air that you want to introduce into them!

@Agile....I wonder how all those rads survive that sit on the merchants shelves full of air???

You may wonder but most are given a coat of an oil to protect them for a while.

They are also supplied dry. Rusting occurs in the presence of moisture.

I agree with Agile because I have seen a rad that was left "drained " It pinholed.

At last someone with practical experience of plumbing!

@Razor900 agiles neither plumber nor gas engineer.

Every time I open a brand new rad, I end up with dirty hands and a bucket of oil.

Are you insinuating that you have more experience than LeeC with regard to plumbing/heating/gas?
What planet are you on???..he would tie you up in knots.
Any oil residues would be the cutting oil used when machining the tappings.
So you're saying the waterways are coated in a film oil?

I was referring to Nigh F.

That is why my comment was immediately after his!
