Energy supplier question

Anyone changed supplier lately
My mate has gone with sainsburys ,he got a good review about them,a discount of £50 on the first bill and a load of nectar points
Anyone else use them or have any thoughts about it

Out of principle I wouldn't buy my energy from a supermarket but it's a principle I can afford to have and many cant.

My personal choice would be Goodenergy.co.uk

you need to know your actual annual gas and electric consumption to get a comparison anything else can be wildly inaccurate

I find it really frustrating that in this day & age we still have such a confusing array of tariffs from energy suppliers. Why can't gas & electricity be like petrol, wood or coal. That is you pay a price for what you use & then the consumer can really tell who is the cheapest. All this business of so many units at one price & the rest at a different price is a nightmare.

That is you pay a price for what you use & then the consumer can really tell who is the cheapest. All this business of so many units at one price & the rest at a different price is a nightmare.

Because power is cheaper at different times.

My brief understanding is that nukes can't be turned off and on (or there is no benefit in doing so), so carry on producing leccy at night when not much is used (hence economy 7), and with other stations there peak demands and such (I know of a dairy maker that works nights as the leccy is cheaper then).

Think of it like trains, the fuel costs the same, but fares are different at peak hours.

Big all I'm in a new house, got the keys last Friday so don't have any readings
I'm requiring, taking out a Mexico floor standing boiler , w plan and prismatic cylinder. Next week a Vaillant ecoplus a is going in, new rads. , new pipe work
Most noticeable thing when going home from says new build is the lack of insulation, it's really cold onthe house, 1958 biuld but nothing in the joists between garage and bathroom above
The joists in the lounge dining room are not quite 7 inches, lovely 70mm notch by the plumber to house 2 x 22mm pipes
Spark has his cables next to the pipe work in the same gap

I wouldn`t buy from a one time National Owned state run co. that was sold off and fuelled the rush for get rich share ownership . God knows who actually owns my supplier now But , Thanks to the forums advice - I don`t think it`s the French

I didn't mean for normal/off peak electricity I meant that the first so many cubic metres of gas are one price & then the rate drops for the rest & the same with single meter electricity, they can't tell whether I am using at peak demand or not & different suppliers have different cut off points & prices for each rate. If I fill my car with petrol I don't pay a higher price for the first ten litres than the next 20 litres. It works out that the poorer sods that are forced to be frugal are probably subsidising people who can afford not to worry how much gas they use.

It can't be turned on and off as such, but it can easily be turned up and down.

Basic economics, use too little and they charge you a premium to make it worth while, use lot's you get a discount, us it when everyone else does and the price goes up.

And stop comparing it to petrol, compare it instead to transport where fees change depending on demand. You stick petrol in a taxi, but taxis charge a whole number of different rates.

It's not ideal, but it's better than having governments dictating how they structure their fees, that will only lead to everyone getting ripped of rather than a few.

Our last home 1/4 mile away was much bigger and all the bills are in storage as we left that home early October
We have been living in a holiday let ever since ,pay week by week w/o committing to6 months rental
We can leave at a week or fortnights notice

who are the local suppliers off gas/electric
how do you pay your bills d/debit or other
do you manage your bills on line
