Engineered Oak Floor lifting

I had a new extension built last year. On the ground floor, I had 21mm (6mm) engineered oak installed in September.

I noticed today that one of the boards in the middle of the room is starting to lift.
I generally had a bad experience with the contractors - mainly the owner getting "jack of all trades" to "have a go" at specialist works.
My immediate suspicion is they haven't left expansion gaps. I took photos throughout the building process as keepsakes, so went back to some I took when the floor was going in. However, these were inconclusive of whether there were expansion gaps.

The other thing I thought it could be is that we have a piano, which is very heavy, by the wall, not too far from the lifting board. This has been here for about 6 months and I was wondering if the weight of it would be preventing the boards expanding in that direction?

Could be either, the expansion gap round the edge will need inspecting, by either removing the scotia or skirting. The board you have purchased is a very stable board so the chance of movement is very minimal.

If you are going to contact someone to have a look i would recommend a floor layer as they would have more experience.

my thoughts revolve around the fact that you say its an extension

are you sure the slab was dry?

were moisture tests done?

I agree with Floorsave and Lymmranger, the floor sounds like it has moved, the cause of the movement needs to be identified, the remedial could be as simple as allowing a little more expansion for the floor, or if there are moisture issues, things will be a little more involved to rectify the floor.
