Existing conduit

Easy to tell if you have a full conduit system as the wires will be SINGLES rather than thicker sheathed CABLES.

Just be careful, there was tendency to put the wiring for the 'off peak' or under floor heating (if installed), in the same conduit as the sockets.

Into CU is pvc not sue about in the walls and voids but I'd be surprised if it different.

I had a non-council house of that vintage - it had slip conduit, not the proper stuff, and VIR inside that, not singles, and there was no way it could be reused.

I reuse the existing conduit (imperial) but fit new deeper boxes (metric) and extend the ring as necessary. Needs a bit of fettling but it works. Sometimes the entire length of conduit springs out of the wall bringing the bricks with it. All adds to the fun.
