I'm considering the purchase of a 1930s 3-bed semi-detached with solid-brick walls (no cavity).

There are some issues with the roof which I will address in a separate thread but I wanted to ask some questions with regards the potential for a 2-storey extension above the garage.

  • The neighbour already has a 2-storey extension up to their boundary presumably this means any proposed extension by me would need to be recessed by a certain amount from my boundary?

  • As the neighbour has extended to their boundary how difficult would that make site access for constructing a 2-storey extension.

  • How is the neighbour allowed to extend to his boundary? Is it just a case of whoever gets there first?
